Genesys Hackathons
Hacktober, a campus hackathon, utilises software technology to address societal issues. Its primary objectives are fostering an inclination towards software development, fostering a culture of collaboration, and promoting best practices.

The maiden edition of Hacktober took place in October 2018, focusing on finding solutions related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Six universities from the southeast region participated namely, UNN, Alex Ekueme Federal University, FUNAI, FUTO, Federal Poly Oko and Federal Poly Nekede.
The event encompasses two phases: an on-campus competition within the student community and an inter-campus finale.

During the initial stage, teams within each institution conceived and designed their solutions. The most outstanding solutions from each campus were awarded N100,000 each and progressed to the second stage, where they implemented their proposed solutions.
The winning team of the 2018 Hackathon was from FUTO, receiving a cash prize of N200,000. Additionally, the first and second runners-up from UNN and MOUAU received cash prizes of N100,000 each.
